# Bookkeeping: 0 to 10 Clients — practice pack Fictional educational data, USD, September 2026. No real accounts, transactions, outreach, or credentials. Open index.html in a modern browser; no network or installation is needed. Draft forms stay in the open page only; download your work before closing or refreshing. The tool does not store client data or connect to accounting software. ## Exercises 1. Trace invoice C001 and its payment; explain why revenue is recorded once. 2. Categorize the owner contribution, loan, transfer and draw. 3. Compare the bank statement with practice books. Record the missing $20 fee, leave check 101 outstanding, and explain the result. 4. Read the accrual P&L and balance sheet. Explain cash versus profit. 5. Change hours from 8 to 12 in the pricing model and inspect the impact. 6. Put 10 clients into the capacity model at 8 hours each, then at 6. Replace all assumptions with your own. 7. Draft an offer and a prospect row. These are drafts; no messages are sent. ## Reconciliation answer Opening checking $2,000. Cleared ending balance $6,580. Book balance before the fee $6,480; after the $20 fee $6,460. Bank $6,580 less the $120 outstanding check equals books $6,460. The cleared-transaction comparison should show zero difference with the check unselected. It is normal for the statement and total book balance to differ when supported outstanding items exist. ## Reports answer Revenue $4,000; expenses $1,140; profit $2,860. Checking $6,460 + savings $600 + receivables $500 = assets $7,560. Loan $2,000 + equity $5,560 = $7,560. Equity: opening $2,000 + owner contribution $1,000 + profit $2,860 - draw $300. ## Source-document pack The statement, invoice list and practice books are original fictional teaching documents. The opening $2,000 is opening equity, not current-period sales. All invoices are for services earned in the example month. The contractor service and consumed supplies are current-month expenses. We omit taxes, depreciation, payroll and unrelated complexities to isolate the teaching points. This is a practice tool, not production accounting software or a legal agreement template. ## A suggested route through the workshop Start in index.html. Use fictional data throughout. On the Invoice tab, post C001 once, then apply its existing payment to the invoice. In Categorize, explain the contribution, loan, transfer and draw before checking the answers. In Reconcile, match actual statement rows, record the supported fee, and leave the unpresented check outstanding. In Reports, inspect both the income statement and balance sheet. Use Price & capacity to replace planning assumptions and observe the consequences. Offer & prospects downloads local drafts only. Monthly close tracks a fictional delivery process. Resources links all supporting files. Open account-explorer.html to inspect the chart of accounts and reports. Choose Loan payable: proceeds represent a liability, not sales. Compare the August opening-only practice period with September, select the report, and press Run report. The basis is fixed to Accrual for this simplified case. Drill into $4,000 service revenue and $500 receivables; trace them to invoices and payments. This is an original learning interface, not a QuickBooks or Xero screen. Open document-desk.html to practice a clear document handoff. Replace scan.pdf with CedarLane_Checking_2026-09_Statement.pdf, choose September 1–30, 2026, then Check document label. The page checks the example label and period only; it cannot inspect an actual PDF. Review the open credit-card-statement item and the receipt's business-purpose note. In real work, use the client's agreed secure location and inspect every required page. This page does not upload documents or implement a secure portal. Read worked-offer-example.txt after trying your own offer. It includes a specific client profile, activity assumptions, deliverables, exclusions, dates, an illustrative fee and a process for changes. It is an educational example, not an engagement agreement to sign without appropriate professional review. ## Pricing and capacity answers Eight hours × $40 + $30 tools + $50 overhead/uncertainty = $400 modeled cost. At a hypothetical $500 fee, the gap is $100 (20% of price). Twelve hours gives $560 cost and a $60 shortfall. Six hours gives $320 cost. These figures value owner time and are not take-home-pay predictions or market pricing claims. 120 available hours − 20 administration − 12 sales/relationships − 16 buffer = 72 delivery hours. Ten clients at eight hours each require 80 delivery hours and 128 total hours. At six measured hours each, ten clients require 60 delivery hours and 108 total hours. Record actual work before changing an assumption. ## Sources and boundaries Sources checked October 10, 2026: - Intuit certification: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/accountants/training-certification/certification/ - Intuit sample-company guide: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/small-business-processes/test-drive-quickbooks-online/L9C12ODlA_US_en_US - Intuit reconciliation: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/statement-reconciliation/reconcile-account-quickbooks-online/L3XzsllsK_US_en_US - SBA launch guidance: https://www.sba.gov/counseling/launch-your-business/ - IRS records guidance: https://www.irs.gov/publications/p583 - FTC small-business cybersecurity: https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/small-businesses/cybersecurity Requirements vary by location and service.
